Highlights of 09

Well, as you all know I perform lots of kids shows and corporate events and weddings every year and the result is a few repeat bookings and lots of courtesy thank you e-mails.
Now this year, I have 2 highlights, and neither has been performing for celebrities or beautiful women no no no,
1) A small boy of maybe 5 yrs old approached me with his dad while I was waited for a train. He proceeded to pretend to pluck a coin from his ear and pretend to throw it at me. Now to most of you this is super weird but this is a routine I perform in my children's act and this child had remembered me from 6 months ago at a kids party where he was used as a volunteer to throw coins in the bucket!! NOW that is the power of magic.
2) My second highlight was that I performed at a very tasteful wedding at Layer Marney near Colchester for Mark and Beckie. Now when I say tasteful, it really was, great weather, great location, great music, great food, and great friends.
Anyway, not only did I get a thank you e-mail but months and months down the line when all was forgotten I received a Christmas card in the post from them thanking me again for performing at their wedding. What lovely people.
Now if that isn't 100% evidence that there are still stacks of genuinely great people left in the world, I don’t know what is.

Christmas Carol

So this weekend while what seems to be hundres of magic shows I managed to fit in a trip to the Cinema to see the new Jim Carrey animation film 'A Christmas Carol'.

It took me ages to realise that it was all animated as it was done so cleverly and it was very similar to the original books and film.

All in all pretty good to make you feel festive. Worth a look

Jerry's Nugget playing card fakes!

Well through the years I have seen decks of the Jerry's Nugget cards sell for £50 a deck up wards. A brick of 12 decks recently sold for $1500 +
To cut a long story short, the Jerry Nugget casino in Vegas closed down and the decks where sold off in limited quanities.
Surfing through the net has revealed that there are people out there printing these cards out and selling them though ebay. Shame on them. Here is the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LocMnE-KEU8

Weekend fun

Well another busy weekend of lots of fun.
It was quite an historic one with my first party in the same area that I live. Actually 2 mins from my house!!
Along with this, I worked at an award winning care home, a childrens party in Carlton, and another one in Gratham in Lincolnshire.
The highlight was a small four year old girl who stood up in the middle of my show while everyone was in hysterics and said
'Why is everyone laughing, it is very very silly'

I sometimes lose touch of the amazment which children feel upon seing magic sometimes for the first time in their lives!!!
If you are having a childrens party or are wanting a mini disco, please drop me a call or e-mail

The new camera has cometh

Ok so I took the advice from renowned camera expert Ken Rockwell and bought myself a Nikon D40 with an extra VR 50-200 mm lense.
First impressions is that it is simply brilliant, easy to use and takes great shots even on the auto selection. I was looking forward to snapping away at the fireworks last night but alas I was performing magic in Hucknall. It was great fun mind you and I am very sure that photos will be forthcoming.
Camera review 10/10 buy it. It is the best value for money slr on the market, both me and Ken agree!

Weekend Feedback

Well the weekend is over and it was super busy.
Lots of magic shows including a great fancie dress party in Sheffield with loads of drunk students dressed as smurfs and clowns and pinocchio.
Also had a great kids show in Buxton which went really well and to top it off had a great Thai meal on the house for our hard work which was really nice.
Also was selected as the lucky wedding magician for a really nice couple in Nottingham and found this e-mail waiting in my inbox
I just wanted to thank you for the fantastic magic on Saturday. Firstly the kids thought you were great. Although I obviously couldn’t get to watch the childrens show, I asked quite a few of them whether they enjoyed it, and they were all very eager to tell me about their favourite things. The parents were also commenting that the children had gone back tell them all about it too. So you were a big hit with the kids, but I think an even bigger hit with the adults. Everyone was amazed by your magic and thought that you were great.
I had so many compliments about you that I couldn’t possibly type them all, but to sum it up, it was considered that your magic was outstanding, that you did an excellent job, were very engaging and left behind a lot of happy and mystified people that wanted more.
Thank you so much for helping to make our day so special.
Kindest regards
Shirley & Mark

It is always nice to receive great feedback like this and makes all the hard work very worthwhile!

If I had all the money in the world I would have a magician and a caricaturist for every person at my wedding... and would start with looking at www.magicalmemories.co.uk

Weekend of Magic and Halloween

Well it will soon be the weekend which means I am working again.
A 2hr magic childrens show in Mansfield, followed by a wedding at Castle Donnington, followed by a fancy dress party in Sheffield (its Haloween)
I have been asked to dress up, this should be fun and I am sure I will upload some photos in due course. I will be a little bit nervous as imagine if no one else is dressed up!!
Then if that’s not enough, off to Buxton on Sunday for another 2 hr long magic birthday party.
Stay tuned for photos.

Well it’s the day after my birthday and had a bit of a late night watching the new Saw film. (Saw vi) Was pretty good and suitably guesome. Highly recommended. We had Premier seat which mean you can spread out and get free snacks. Happy days. Now back to work and christmas bookings are coming in. Got a booking fairly local in Derby which is great as I like the festive time off the roads.

Armando is Coming to Town

Well the international magic convention is coming to London in a few weeks, but I cannot attend for lots of reasons.
It is a great shame, the line up contains the great Argentinian magician Armando Lucero. Armando is the greatest coin magician in the world and I hold very good memories about him!!
I was about 18 years old and entered my first major competition, I didn’t do great but I met the great Tom Stone from Sweden and I watched Armando perform his extraordinary coin Matrix. I have never been so fooled in all my life!! If anyone is going to the convention and hasn’t seen his matrix and he does it, you are in for a treat!!!

How it Started

Due to me recently starting my Blog I thought I would discuss a little about how I started my life in magic.
I was a fairly late starter being about 13 I was introduced to magic via Paul Daniels magic show. Both me and my older brother Duncan dabbled and swapped ideas and tricks, read books etc. There came a time when being self taught was ok but I was fortunate to meet one of the greatest card magicians Mr Michael Vincent. Not only is Michael technically perfect but his high polished performances and attitude leaves everyone else standing. Now Michael lives in London and I live in Nottingham. However over about 10 years a friendship grew and every time I was going on holiday or worked in the capital I would ring Michael up for a coffee and a magic session. These sessions added to my performance than anything I could ever read. In 2005 I won the Nottingham Guild of Magician Trophy which I won a further two times.
I know I am fortunate, to have met so many great magician who have inspired me and I hope one day I can inspire someone else!
